2025 Finance 101

Designed specifically for new and aspiring special education directors, and those who support the director, this training will teach the skills for projecting revenue, for building a compliant, data-driven special education budget, and will build a bank of resoursces for on-going use.

Day 1
8:30 – 9 am
Registration and continental breakfast begins
9 am – 12 pm Part One: Funding Sources, Resources & Tools 
Our work begins by defining revenue sources, identifying resources and tools, and building a network of colleagues to support you when you are back in your district doing the work. Participants will learn where the money comes from, the expectations for appropriate use of those funds, and what that long string of numbers in your budget means.
12 – 1 pm Lunch on site
1 – 4:30 pm Part Two: A Deeper Dive into Grants
Our next step will be a close-up look at the grants that fund your program. You will learn about the basics of EDGAR, excess cost requirements, and the specific program guidelines for the IDEA-B Formula and Preschool grants.

9 am – 12 pm Part Three: Grants and Budgeting
We’ll finish our work with grants by reviewing required schedules, the required “set asides” for residential placements and proportionate share funds for private school students. We’ll also dive into MOE eligibility and compliance, review personnel funding and explore a simple budgeting process.
